Today, the team launches a new AIR application for Flex developers: the Adobe AIR launchpad (beta on labs.adobe.com). This wizard helps developers get started coding AIR applications. With a few clicks, you can generate a Flex project (with comments) that you can import into Flash Builder and deploy your application instantly. I especially like the code generated to manage the automatic updates (Auto-Update API), the different icons, the Idle Time Detection, the HTTP Monitoring Capabilities, the Global Error Handler… There are so many options ! You can also import samples from Tour de Flex, and start playing with features such as “Drag and drop”, “Native Process”, “Sockets” and “Detect Storage Device”. The final application is generated for the Flex 4.1 framework and targets the Adobe AIR 2.0 runtime. The Adobe AIR Launchpad can also generate an install badge in a separate folder. Thanks to this new application and Tour de Flex, Flex developers should be able to learn the API enabled by AIR faster. This new tool is in beta, so we need your feedback! To contribute, visit the forums also available on labs.adobe.com. Kudos to Holly (alias ‘Devgirl‘) !
